Henderson is a Las Vegas suburb with a population of over 330,000 covering more than 100 miles. Historically a bedroom community, the area has been attracting more businesses and industries, a trend local leaders would like to continue. However, the City is also aware that its water resources to support new development are limited and developing new supplies will be challenging and expensive.

To balance its dual interests in attracting businesses that diversify its economy, while also ensuring a sustainable and responsible water footprint, Henderson applied for Accelerator support in developing a rating system to help it prioritize industries and businesses best positioned to help achieve both goals.

The result was a Non-Residential Water Utility Scorecard, allowing local decision makers to objectively compare the water impact, economic benefits, equity practices, and community fit of proposed commercial and industrial developments.

The scorecard enables the City to prioritize businesses providing the greatest return on water investment and attract businesses consistent with its water use, economic, and livability goals.
