WaterNow is committed to elevating and celebrating local leaders who do the hard work of advancing and accelerating innovative, sustainable water solutions in their community. We know that exceptional leaders exist at every level within cities, towns, utilities, and water resource agencies and we are thrilled to acknowledge their work through our Impact and Emerging Leader Awards.

 

Impact Award: Recognizes governing board members and leaders of a public water utility – whether elected or appointed, special district or whether serving a town, city, county or region.

The Impact Award honors public water agency decision makers for leadership in catalyzing climate resilient, environmentally sustainable, innovative water solutions in their communities. The primary criterion for an Impact Award is leadership in the adoption of resilient, sustainable, and/or equitable solutions with meaningful impact at the community or regional level. These solutions could include, but are not limited to:

• enactment of conservation ordinances or equity programs;
• engagement on policy matters at the state, local or federal levels; or
• initiation of a sustainable water project or strategic initiative

Nominations are also evaluated based on the extent to which they advance social and racial equity – by helping to make water more affordable, accessible and safer, or provide other critical benefits for underserved communities.

Emerging Leader Award: Recognizes mid-level water utility professionals poised to take on leadership positions in the coming years.

The Emerging Leader Award, which was introduced in 2021, is dedicated to celebrating and advancing professionals from under-represented communities in the utility space. These individuals have demonstrated promise and creativity in advancing meaningful cultural change in the areas of sustainability, equity, or community engagement.

Winners in this category are awarded $1,500 to support their leadership training and professional development.
