Project Goal
WaterNow, Grand County, and the Headwaters Center are partnering to strengthen water conservation across Grand County communities amid growing pressure on local water supplies. The project builds on the County’s existing Drought Preparedness Program and will establish a coordinated, county-wide approach to drought messaging and water conservation activities. This approach will align conservation goals and actions, and outreach strategies across communities to drive consistent water-saving efforts. This project will strengthen Grand County’s ability to prepare for and respond to drought by developing outreach materials for utilities and municipalities to communicate with residents about drought conditions, and by establishing a coordinated, county-wide approach to water conservation activities. This will improve collaboration among utilities, municipalities, and community partners and advance public education on the County’s drought plan. By increasing participation in conservation efforts, the project will drive measurable water savings and support long-term water supply resilience.
Our Approach
Grand County’s 16,000 residents live across six municipalities in the Colorado River headwaters region, and local governments seek a more unified approach to water conservation and drought preparedness. WaterNow will review local water conservation plans and programs, learn from peer communities about cross-jurisdictional collaboration, and facilitate a workshop with County, municipal, and utility staff to align on shared conservation goals. WaterNow will use these insights to develop a unified, county-wide strategy for water conservation activities and drought messaging.
