WaterNow will host our 2023 Emerging Leader Awards Ceremony on August 9th from 2-3 pm EDT. Join us to celebrate this year’s cohort, who are advancing innovative, sustainable, and equitable water solutions in their communities!

This year’s winners have led projects pushing for Spanish-speaking support for utility customers, supporting outdoor water conservation initiatives in underserved communities, creating space and support for the Black community within the water sector, championing outdoor water efficiency, and integrating green stormwater infrastructure in schoolyards.

Dr. Jalonne White-Newsome, Senior Director for Environmental Justice at The White House Council on Environmental Quality, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s ceremony. Dr. White-Newsome advises and advances the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to environmental justice. Through a range of positions and interdisciplinary leadership roles, Dr. White-Newsome has worked to tackle the toughest environmental challenges and advance racial equity, public health, and climate change resiliency. Travis Loop, founder and host of waterloop podcast, will be our host, taking the audience through the winners’ stories. Travis explores the progress and successes in tackling water challenges in the United States by featuring people and projects advancing sustainability and equity in water.

The Emerging Leader Award is dedicated to celebrating and advancing mid-level professionals from backgrounds and identities under-represented in the water utility space, who are poised to take on leadership positions in the coming years. By recognizing the emerging leaders of today, we aim to support their growth while celebrating their achievements, creating a strong foundation from which water utilities can address the sustainability challenges of tomorrow.
