Enhancing Water Conservation Communications & Outreach Our Approach Project Outcomes

Project Goal

EBMUD launched this project to gain deeper insights into participation and outreach gaps in its water conservation programs across all customer segments. The initiative aims to reduce disparities, identify and address barriers, and increase engagement in water-saving programs and resources.

Our Approach

WaterNow will conduct a spatial analysis of participation and outreach trends to evaluate engagement with key water conservation programs, particularly East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD) rebate programs, conservation device distribution, and educational offerings. This analysis will provide insights into participation patterns across the service area and help assess the overall effectiveness of EBMUD’s program outreach.

The project team will conduct a comprehensive conservation program participation analysis to identify gaps and trends across customer segments, drawing on insights from EBMUD staff, community-based organizations, and customers. These findings will inform the development of a Water Conservation Outreach and Communications Strategic Plan, which will outline strategies to reduce participation disparities, identify communication preferences and trusted information channels, and guide the design and evaluation of future engagement efforts to ensure all customers have access to water-saving resources and services.
